Pearl, as we all know, is a perfect rounded, lustrous and hard gemstone which is produced inside the shells of mollusks which are made up of calcium carbonate and hence the pearls in minute crystalline form.
The calcium carbonate gets deposit in concentric circles to form a pearl. The finest quality of pearls are considered gemstones and now the word pearl is something which is admirable, very beautiful, very fine, valuable and very much rare.
Now it is known to all of us that the gemstones are used in jewelry and the pearl jewelry is something which looks very delicate and most charming. The value of pearl is defined by the jewelers on the basis of its luster, shape, color, size, lack of surface flaw, and the symmetry that are needed for the type of pearl under consideration. The larger the pearl the more value it bears as it is very much rare to get big pearls. Generally, tear shaped pearls are used in pendants.
Pearls come in eight basic shapes. These are; round, semi-round, button, drop, oral, pear, circled and baroque. Perfectly round shapes are very precious and rare. The semi-round pearls are used in necklaces, pendants and the jewelry in which the pearl’s shape is disguised to look large and perfectly round.
Button pearls are also used in necklaces but most often in single pendants or earrings in which the back part is covered which makes it to look large and round. Drop or pear shaped pearls are known as teardrop pearls and mostly used in necklace as center pearl, in pendants, and also in earrings.
The pearl jewelry can be classified on the basis of the color of the pearl. White and black saltwater pearls are very famous. The other tints of color can be found on pearls in ocean. There are pearls of pink, blue, green, purple and champagne colors which are used in jewelry but to make a string of pearl of particular color and size takes several years.
But the main thing is that, whatever the color of the pearl, the jewelry made of it looks fascinating and very beautiful, especially engagement rings.
