For example, couples generally use gold and diamond engagement rings to symbolize engagement. This is further romanticized when you hear that the bigger the diamond, the more you love the girl! Of course, this is sort of a marketing ploy used by the jewelry companies to get you to buy bigger rings, but many of us believe it in at least one form or another.
